Functional Nutrition Counseling
We are all created wonderfully and uniquely by God. Genetics, our life story, the environment we live in, and so much more compose this uniqueness and in some cases our illnesses. So often when it comes to illness, we are placed in a one-size-fits-all solution. Functional Nutrition doesn't look at your symptoms and diagnoses in a vacuum but looks at the whole picture of who you are in order to take a personalized approach to your healing.
What is Functional
Nutrition Counseling?
This holistic approach works to restore optimal function of the body by focusing in a food first approach to health care. By focusing on food, we are able to take advantage of food's natural bioavailable nutrients and synergistic qualities to get to heal and restore.

A Functional Nutrition Counselor is trained to apply Root Cause Principles to your care, work in systems and frameworks to shape personalized protocols, and in client education. This specialized training guides your individual care in a way that takes the guess work out of the equation. So often, the solution to our health issues are decided before we even walk through the office door. Functional Nutrition Counseling works along side you to empower you and "clear the muddy waters" of your illness in a way that embraces your wonderful uniqueness.

Let's Get Started!

Bailey Potter, CFNC
Food has always been a fascination of mine even from a young age. But I never really understood how it impacted my health and what it was doing inside my body. I graduated of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a bachelor's in Nutrition and Exercise Sciences. Even with this education, I still felt like there was something missing. My husband was having health issues, and he began treating them with a holistic mindset which really propelled our view of how powerful food can be. Over time, I began experiencing my own health challenges and sought out help at Van Engen Health Center. I was all in from the beginning and soon began working there. Before long, they wanted to utilize my nutrition knowledge, but I didn't feel confident treating clients with my bachelor's degree alone. What I learned in undergrad was more management of symptoms and disease and less about healing and getting to the bottom of health issues. All the experience with diet change and healing at home had set an amazing stage, but it was time to learn the even more of the "why," behind what we were doing and how to help others do the same. The fire was lit and I began my studies with the Functional Nutrition Alliance team. From the beginning of this program, I knew that God had me in the place I had been seeking for so long. Throughout this program, I was able to see how wonderfully God made our bodies to do the work to digest and heal, how cooking and eating is an act of worship, and how he designed food with synergistic qualities to nourish us so well. I am so incredibly thankful to have this opportunity to work with clients in healing and learning how their bodies work and what food can do for them!
